Getting Outdoors Has Never Been More Important for Our Health

We can all agree that it’s been a tough year. With winter keeping us all indoors more, but socialising still being limited, there’s a good chance we’re all feeling a little bit of cabin fever. That’s why it’s never been more important to get outdoors for both our physical and our mental health! Let’s kick those winter blues and get outside for some fresh mountain air and rejuvenating movement.

Living in British Columbia, we are absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to outdoor adventures. With the mountains on our doorstep and endless trails at all levels of difficulty, there truly is an adventure for everyone.

Whether you’re brand new to the idea of hiking and outdoor activities or you just need that extra encouragement to get out there more often and challenge yourself a little harder…we can help.

Getting outdoors can help us feel better in mind and body. At BeWild! Adventures, we’re big advocates for the healing power of nature. If you’re feeling a little confined and maybe even a bit lonely, join us for an outdoor adventure that we can do together. Enjoy a sense of community and connection, and let’s all treat ourselves to the benefits of getting outdoors.

How Hiking Helps Our Mental and Physical Health

We all know the importance of staying active for our physical health. But moving our bodies is also great for our mental health! Especially when we do these activities in nature, we can truly get so much more out of our efforts.

If you’ve ever been hiking before, you probably know that sense of accomplishment once you reach the summit and bask in the beautiful views all around. Even before you reach the highest heights, walking along a trail can do wonders for focusing our energy on this single task of putting one foot in front of the other.

It doesn’t hurt that the trails around BC offer everything from waterfalls to ancient trees, from sprawling meadows filled with wildflowers to breathtaking vistas across valleys and mountains.

Getting outdoors for a walk in nature is rejuvenating, refreshing, and it’s really just so much fun!

Winter Can’t Hold Us Back From Getting Outside

Some cold temperatures and a little bit of snow can’t hold us back! Hiking in the winter is a fabulous experience that offers completely different perspectives on the landscape than we get in summer. Plus, winter is when we can snowshoe! If you’ve never actually been snowshoeing, it’s a classic wintertime activity that you can’t miss out on.

Top Hikes Near Vancouver for Any Time of Year

Living in Vancouver means we have incredible access to countless extraordinary hikes. Whether you’re anxious to get out right now and experience the winter beauty of BC or you’re planning ahead for sunnier days and warmer temperatures…we have some favourite hikes near Vancouver to recommend.

For those who are new to hiking or want to ease into hitting the trails, Cheakamus Lake is a perfect place to start. If you’re more in the intermediate range, we highly recommend Garibaldi Lake or Elfin Lakes. Both are beautiful hikes that can challenge you a bit more while still being very achievable and rewarding.

For the more advanced, serious hikers, Wedgemount Lake is fantastic. It’s challenging and wild, but it is absolutely one of the best hikes in the area.

Get Out of the City and Into Nature

Being in Vancouver brings with it convenience and endless amenities. Having access to the incredibly diverse food scene is a way of travelling around the world right now, even though we’re stuck at home.

But being in the city is also a challenge. If you’re like us, you need a better balance. You need trees and fresh air and open space to feel grounded and healthy. Luckily for all of us, we don’t have to choose one or the other. Living in Vancouver means we have all of Whistler and Squamish on our doorstep. All the lakes and waterfalls, the mountain trails and even the stunning drives to get there…it’s all part of the adventure!

If you’re anxious to get out of the city and into nature for some much-needed balance in your life, then take a look at our day trips from Vancouver for winter hikes and snowshoeing. If you’re ready to join us, then let’s get out there and Be Fearless! Be Free! BeWild!
